In the presence of numerous guests, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army, the City of Nis, the Municipality of Pantelej, the Serbian-Russian Humanitarian Center, the Sindjelic family, associations of citizens committed to preserving the memory of participants and victims of armed conflicts, wreaths were laid at the memorial to Stevan Sindjelic.

The state ceremony marking the anniversary of the battle on Cegar, was led by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans’ Affairs and Social Affairs, Miodrag Kapor.
The Battle of Cegar, which took place on May 31, 1809, is one of the most tragic armed conflicts in the entire period of the First Serbian Uprising. The Serbian insurgents, led by Stevan Sindjelic, despite the heroic resistance, failed to achieve victory in this battle, which marked the beginning of the collapse of the uprising in the Belgrade `pashaluk`.

The organizer of the state ceremony is the Government of the Republic of Serbia – the Committee for Nurturing the Traditions of the Liberation Wars of Serbia. (Photos by D. Vidojković)
