On Tuesday, June 27, 2020, on the eve of Vidovdan, when the Serbian Church prayerfully celebrates the Holy Martyr Prince Lazar and the Holy Serbian Martyr, the traditional Vidovdan Academy was held, with the blessing of His Eminence the Bishop of Nis. Mr. Arsenije. The Vidovdan Academy was opened with the anthem “God of Justice” performed by the Nis church-singing troupe “Branko”, under the direction of conductor Mrs. Sara Cincarevic and the Military Orchestra of the Land Army of the Republic of Serbia, conducted by Major Dejan Djordjevic. The beginning of the academy was dedicated to the recently deceased Dr. Miodrag Lazić.
After broadcasting the insert from the film “Heart in the palm of your hand”, which is dedicated to the “surgeon of the attacked Serbian people”, the writer Bojan Vracar from East Sarajevo, the leader of a group of about one hundred and twenty Serbs who came to Nis, recited his moving verses. to pay their respects to their Dr. Lazic, as they affectionately called him. Then, the Most Reverend Bishop of Nis, Arsenije, addressed a greeting sermon, who posthumously awarded the highest recognition of the Orthodox Diocese of Nis – the Order of the Holy Roman of Đunis First Degree – to Dr. Miodrag Lazić. The order was received on behalf of her father by Nina Vujosevic, who gave a touching speech and sent a strong message: “This order is also a reminder to all of us to follow his path.” Let’s be humane, selfless… Mothers, tell the children about Serbian heroes! Serbs, wherever you are, do not give your shrines! Keep your heroes from oblivion! And guided by Prince Lazar – it is better for the grandchildren of the dead to remember us, than for the sons of the living to forget!
“Then, the March on the Drina was performed, the last wish of Dr. Lazić, which became a symbol of blessed memory of this great doctor and man, in the days of the emergency situation, due to the Kovid 19 virus, which took the life of Dr. Miodrag.
This year’s speaker of the Vidovdan Academy was prof. Dr. Ivan Nikolic, professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Nis, who in his speech reminded that knowledge is the most valuable thing we can give to children at school and that it is more important than any paper that recognizes that knowledge.This was followed by the presentation of the Vidavdan Awards to this year’s Knights of Knowledge, and this year, in addition to the students of the generation from all primary and secondary schools in Nis, but also Gadžin Han and Svrljig, the best students from all faculties of the University of Niš. In addition to the best pupils and students, their parents and professors, monks and clergy of the Diocese of Nis, representatives of Nis cultural and public life and the academic public, the Vidovdan Academy was attended by a large number of representatives of city institutions – Nisava Administrative District Dragana Sotirovski, Commander of the Army Of the Republic of Serbia, General Milosav Simovic and numerous members of the army, Rector of the Theological Seminary “Saints Cyril and Methodius” in Nis, Archpriest-Staurophore Milutin Timotijevic, Archpriest-Staurophore Vlajko Grabez, retired parish priest of the Cathedral in Nis, presidents of Nis municipalities, and a delegation of friends and admirers and the works of Dr. Miodrag Lazić from East Sarajevo.
In the program of this year’s Vidovdan Academy, in addition to the Military Orchestra of the Land Army of the Republic of Serbia and the great choir of the Nis Church-Singing Company “Branko”, the Children’s and Youth Choir “Branko”, Children’s Folklore Drama Ensemble “Branko” and Folklore and Dance Ensemble Branko “.
