The organizers of the 51st International Meeting of Children JOY OF EUROPE “New Dreams – New Challenges”, which were held virtually this year, were welcomed on October 6 by the President of the City Municipality of Palilula, Bratislav Vuckovic. Minja Subota, Miljko Petrović, representatives of the Children’s Cultural Center Belgrade spoke about this year’s program, which will be broadcast on RTV Belami in Nis after RTS 2, in cooperation with the creators of the City of Nis – the Center of Traditional Culture and Spirituality Vuk Karadzic and Palilula Municipality. This meeting was also attended by Deputy Mayor Lazar Dinić.
This year’s 51st International Meeting of European Children under the slogan “New Dreams” could not be held in regular circumstances, so the youngest participants from foreign countries were not allowed to visit the capital and present the culture of their home country to new friends. However, the organizers did not want the event not to take place, so the children sent videos of their performance, which will be shown in a special show. During the summer, as part of the overture for the “Joy of Europe” event, creative workshops were held online and outdoors in front of the Children’s Cultural Center.
The culture of 15 countries was presented through various art media. Among other things, the participants had the opportunity to get to know the work of William Shakespeare through dramatic improvisation in English on the basis of the special edition “Summer Night’s Dream”, then to learn to sing a Swedish song dedicated to St. Lucia with Leontina Vukomanović. In the part of the program dedicated to Russia “Everything starts from the point – Vasily Kandinsky”, the children got acquainted with the most important works of this artist, and with the actor Lazar Dubovac, they traveled with their imagination to Denmark, to the magical world of Andersen’s fairy tales. They found out what happens when objects from the magical world speak, how a fairy tale would sound if it was told by the “Little Mermaid” comb, the “Snow Queen” scarf or the “Ugly Duckling” pillow.
