After the ceremony in Donje Medjurovo, the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, held a press conference at the Officers’ Home in Niš and announced that an agreement had been reached in Brussels on the de-escalation of the situation in northern Kosovo and Metohija. “I think we have reached a kind of compromise solution, which I am satisfied with and I think is important for our side,” said President Vučić. He conveyed that, under item 1, both sides in Brussels agreed that ROSU units withdraw from the administrative crossings Jarinje and Brnjak, simultaneously with the removal of barricades, that KFOR places its forces at these crossings before the implementation of the agreement, where they will remain. about two weeks to preserve the safety of the environment and freedom of movement. President Vučić stated that, under item 2, it was agreed to establish a sticker regime from October 4, as a temporary measure until the final solution, which was postponed for a while, and which will be discussed in Brussels.
“I consider it a great success of our side,” said President Vučić and added that, in point 3, it was agreed to form a working group consisting of representatives of the EU, Belgrade and Pristina, which will seek a permanent solution for the tables, based on European standards and practice. “The first meeting will be held on October 21, and within six months, the Working Group will present its findings and the final solution for the highest level of dialogue,” said President Vučić, emphasizing that the most important thing is that the next topic will be the Union of Serbian Municipalities.
“For us, the departure of armed members of Albanian special units, ROSU units, and armored vehicles from the north of Kosovo and Metohija is important. In addition, it is important that the EU will insist on talking about the Union of Serbian Municipalities, as well as to admit that the Brussels Agreement was not respected in the case of Ivan Todosijevic. I believe that this was a good indicator that in the future, such actions of Albanians will either not happen or will encounter even stronger resistance from the Serbian population. The return of KFOR, in accordance with Resolution 1244, shows that it is possible to achieve additional guarantees for the security and safety of the Serb population in Kosovo and Metohija. There is no more removal of plates and trial plates of RKS, nor payment for anything, especially no removal of KM plates or persecution of Serbs who own them. We have defended the right to freedom of movement, the flow of people, goods, food and peace has been preserved! It is important for Serbia to talk, to make a relationship that is not a relationship of hostility. I am pleased with our effort, commitment and what we have achieved. We reacted as a state in a serious, responsible and smart way. We have shown that we will always be with our people, and that is clear to everyone today, “said President Vučić. September 30, 2021.
