Palilula Municipality Nis, in partnership with the Municipality of Pirdop, organized a round table in the Republic of Bulgaria on November 4 in the hall of the Tami Residence Hotel in Nis on the topic “Current situation and improvement of land, air and water quality in the cross-border region”. This is one of the activities of the project teams of the two partner municipalities, on the project “Joint Initiatives for Nature Protection through Improving Air, Land and Water Quality in the Cross-Border Region”, co-financed within the EU Intereg IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Program Bulgaria – Serbia.
Bratislav Vuckovic, President of the Municipality of Palilula, The delegation of the partner municipality of Pirdop in the Republic of Bulgaria, project teams of the two municipalities, representatives of the City Municipality of Palilula, the City Council of Nis and JKP Mediana participated in the round table.
The participants of the gathering were greeted by Bratislav Vuckovic, the president of the Municipality of Palilula, and Angel Gerov, the Mayor of the Municipality of Pirdop. Kostadin Kostadinov, project manager, spoke about the project goals, activities and expected results. Bojan Teofilović informed the participants of the round table about the implementation of the project in the Municipality of Palilula. A member of the City Council in Nis, Nenad Stanković, greeted those present on behalf of the Mayor of the City of Nis, Dragana Sotoirovski, and then spoke about the experiences of the City of Nis in the field of emergency situations. Irena Stamenković, Deputy Director of JKP Mediana, spoke about the problems in the field of environmental protection in the city, and Vojkan Tričković spoke about the state of the environment in the municipality of Palilula. The guests from the Municipality of Pirdop shared their experiences in the area covered by the project.
When asked what cross-border projects mean for the Municipality of Palilula, Bratislav Vuckovic, the mayor pointed out; “Interreg-IPA CBS EU programs, Bulgaria-Serbia have given us the opportunity to improve ties between local communities, strengthen cultural, social and economic cooperation, and of course to promote the potential of the municipality of Palilula in the region.” We have established partnerships and projects with the Bulgarian cities of Svoge, Kyustendil, Bobov Dol, Ihtiman, Botevgrad, Berkovica, Pirdop. Thanks to these projects, with the support of the EU, the citizens of the municipality of Palilula got new sports fields, landscaped park areas, small businesses the opportunity to improve production.
