Students of the sixth grade of the elementary school “Kole Rašić” with teacher Brankica Lukić visited the Municipality of Palilula within the curriculum of Civic education. They expressed their wish to get an explanation of government levels and the content of the work of local self-government in the discussion with the Municipal local leadership.
The president of the Municipality Aleksandar Ždrale and the head of the Municipal administration Marija Brajdić discussed with the students and some explanations about the work of the Municipal authorities were also given by Marija Ćirić and Anđela Milojević, employees of the Municipal administration. The students prepared well and there were more questions about the details of understanding the role and place of citizens in power and in society, rights and duties. On this occasion, they met the president with a project aimed at offering an answer “whether the regulation on the ban on the sale of alcohol and cigarettes to minors” is respected in the settlements where schools are situated and the first results of the survey with the citizens.
According to the teacher Brankica Lukić, this teaching subject enables the development of student creativity in solving social problems, critical thinking and reasoning. It gives students the opportunity to become active participants in the process of education and to build the knowledge, skills and values necessary for the formation of an autonomous and creative personality, teaches to be opened to agreement and cooperation, and become one who respects oneself and others. Fostering the research spirit and developing the team’s ability to work, creating a sense of responsibility and raising the awareness of students about their place in society are the possibilities to influence their reality are the basics of educational, and practical goals of Civic education curriculum.
