LIBERATION OF NIS IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR

ОСЛОБОЂЕЊЕ НИША У ПРВОМ СВЕТСКОМ РАТУ

The laying of wreaths on the monument to Petar Bojović in Niš marked the 103rd anniversary of the liberation of Niš in the First World War. Wreaths were laid at the monument to the celebrated military leader and duke Petar Bojović by representatives of the Army, the Mayor of Niš Dragana Sotirovski and his associates, representatives of the Nišava District, presidents of city municipalities, veterans’ organizations, the Circle of Serbian Sisters and descendants of veterans.

On behalf of the City Municipality of Palilula, the wreath was laid by President Bratislav Vuckovic and his associates. Historians remind that October 12 is an exceptional date in the history of the city. In less than a month, units under the command of duke Petar Bojović reached Niš and literally dispersed the occupiers. This marked a period of freedom. Nis has never reconciled with the occupier’s boot, which is why it cherishes the memory of all the victims who died for the liberation of the city.
