Gradska opstina Palilula

A Public Discussion on the Draft Law on Gender Equality was held in Belgrade after the organization of the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans’ Affairs and Social Affairs in Niš, and on July 3 this draft will be presented in Novi Pazar. “The material that should be regulated by the Law on Gender Equality is of great importance for the Republic of Serbia, stressed Dr Stana Bozovic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans’ and Social Affairs, adding that this implies taking care of prevention and suppression of every kind discrimination and the achievement of equality and equality, as well as the protection of human rights. Preventing discrimination against women in employment, the right to equal pay, promotion and improvement, banning the media from promoting prejudice and stereotypes towards women, are only part of what the new Law on Gender Equality offers. The draft law also raised the rankings more for political parties, as it is predicted that at least 40 percent of candidates of the less represented gender should be included in the electoral lists. We are committed to these goals by the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, as well as various international conventions from the sphere of protection of human rights that we as a state have approached. Nina Mitic, ssistant of the minister, Dr. Biljana Stojković, Senior Advisor, Sector for Anti-Discrimination Policy and Gender Equality (MRZBSP) and Prof. Nevena Petrusic, national expert on gender equality spoke about the law.

On behalf of the City of Nis, the participants of the public hearing were welcomed by prof.dr Miloš Bandjur, Deputy Mayor of Niš, and then about the importance of adopting the new law and the statuse of gender representation in Niš and the Municipality of Palilula spoke Sanja Jeftić Branković, a member of the Assembly of the City of Niš and members of the Women’s Council Network and Adriana Anastasov ,.President of the Municipal Assembly of Palilula. Aleksandar Ždrale, President of the City Municipality of Palilula, also participated in this meeting.

The goal of the new law on gender equality is to achieve full equality and a better and more tolerant society in Serbia. Strategic documents and action plans require not only monitoring, evaluation, clearly defined and measurable goals, but also the responsibility for their implementation, participants of the public debate on the draft law held in Nis concluded. The deadline for receiving proposals, opinions and suggestions on the Draft Law is July 5, and the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans’ Affairs and Social Affairs expects that the law will enter parliamentary procedure at the end of this year.
