Organized by the Standing Conference of Cities and Municipalities, the Regional Meeting on the Code of Ethics for Local Self-Government Officials was held on September 21 in the large hall of the Niš City Assembly. The meeting participants were presented with this document, as well as the Guide for the implementation of the Code of Ethics. The meeting was opened by the President of the Niš City Assembly, Dr. Boban Džunić, who pointed out that the Code of Ethics is a topic that is justifiably given great importance, because ethics and integrity are closely related to the rule of law and the functioning of local self-governments in full capacity.
The Municipality of Palilula was represented by Bratislav Vučković, the president of the Municipality, Lazar Dinić, the deputy president, and members of the Municipal council Jovica Ralić, Saša Usenović, Predrag Petrović and Dušan Pujović. According to Bratislav Vučković, the importance of the code of ethics lies precisely in the fact that officials recognize how they should relate to their duty, which citizens have entrusted to them, and how they will behave towards other people and officials.
In 2008, the Assembly of the City of Niš adopted the Code of Ethics for Local Self-Government Officials, and the new document was supplemented and improved in view of changes in this area. (D:V)
