    A MEMORIAL PLAQUE ON THE KOSARE HEROES BOULEVARD

    НА БУЛЕВАРУ ХЕРОЈА СА КОШАРА ОТКРИВЕНА СПОМЕН ПЛОЧА

    The City of Nis paid tribute to the heroes of the most important battle in the modern history of Serbia – the battle of Košare by placing a memorial plaque in their honor. On the day when the hardest fight during the NATO aggression officially began.

    The unveiling ceremony of the memorial plaque in honor of the heroes of the battle from Košare was held on April 9, 2021, on the Boulevard of the same name (Kosare Heroes Boulevard), which connects Boulevard 12. februar and Boulevard Nikola Tesla.

    This boulevard was named on the initiative of Darko Andjelković, one of the fighters from Košare. The Mayor of Nis, Dragana Sotirovski, who, together with Andjelković, unveiled the memorial plaque. The celebrated commander, retired colonel-general Vladimir Lazarevic, also addressed the audience.

    The President of the City Municipality of Palilula, Bratislav Vuckovic, also attended this event.

    The unveiling ceremony of the memorial plaque was held in the presence of representatives of fighters from Košare, Mayor Dragana Sotirovski and associates, President of the City Assembly of Niš Boban Džunić, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Milosav Simović, retired Colonel-General Vladimir Lazarević, Embassy of Russia, Chief of Police Niš Slaviša Virijević, representatives of the BIA, Gendarmerie, Parachute Unit, veterans’ associations, representatives of city municipalities and the Diocese of Niš (photos by DV)
