Gradska opstina Palilula

Next to the playground of the Women’s Football Club Mašinac in Ljubomira Nikolića Street, in the settlement “Delijski Vis”, after the international action of young people from two partner municipalities, the Municipality of Pirdop in Bulgaria and the City Municipality of Palilula Nis, “lilac garden” was opened on Friday, April 8. The first lilac seedlings were planted by the presidents of the two municipalities, Angel Gerov (Pirdop) and Bratislav Vuckovic (CSO Palilula) and his associates. As announced, “Palilula Lilac Garden” will soon be promoted in the Municipality of Pirdop in Bulgaria.

The idea, which arose as a result of a year of successful cooperation between the two municipalities on the project “Joint Initiatives for Nature Protection through Improving Air, Soil and Water Quality in the Cross-Border Region” (co-financed by the European Union through Interreg-IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Program Bulgaria – Serbia), according to the President of Palilula, Bratislav Vuckovic, has gained a new dimension.

It was agreed that the cooperation between the two municipalities will continue even after the completion of this project. One of the numerous proposals, which originated from the work on the project, was to plant lilac seedlings in certain locations as a sign of successful cooperation in the municipalities of Palilula and Pirdop and for the new “green areas” to bear the name of the partner municipality. Lilac seedlings will be planted at a certain location, in the settlement of Delijski Vis. The activity was supported by the City of Nis – JKP Mediana (Sector Greenery) and EKOpolis-Media Ecological Network of Serbia.

Environmental protection is the basis for future development and sustainable growth of the cross-border region. After the implementation of project activities that promote the protection of nature and natural resources, this type of civic activism, with the support of the local community, deserves attention.
