The eightieth anniversary of the escape of 105 detainees on February 12, 1942 from the death camp at the Red Cross in Nis was marked by a commemorative gathering of wreaths in memory of the victims.
Representatives of the leadership of the City of Nis, the President of the Assembly, the Mayor of Nis, presidents of city municipalities, representatives of the Serbian Army, police, veterans’ organizations, the Serbian-Russian Humanitarian Center, scouts-participants of the march “In the Footsteps of Detainees”, students gathered at the Memorial Complex The president of the Municipality Bratislav Vuckovic and a member of the Municipal council Jovica Ralic paid tribute to the victims of the breakthrough heroes of Nis Camp together with school pupils and interested citizens.
On behalf of the City of Nis, the wreath was laid by the Mayor of Nis Dragana Sotirovski, the President of the Assembly Dr. Boban Džunić and the Deputy Mayor Dušica Davidović. The concentration camp in Nis was founded in 1941 as a reception center. From here, thousands of prisoners were transferred to other camps across Europe or taken to Bubanj Hill for execution. (D.
