Gradska opstina Palilula

On the occasion of the Liberation Day of Nis in the First World War in 1918, the delegation of the City of Nis, the Serbian Army, the Association of Veterans, City municipalities, the Ministry of Interior Affairs, the Alliance of Veterans, Nisava Administrative District, the Association for keeping the traditions of the Serbian Liberation Wars, the Serbian-Russian Humanitarian Center, paid tribute to the victims of the war on October 12, by laying wreaths at the Monument to the Liberators, on King Milan Square.

On behalf of Palilula Municipality, the wreath was laid by the President of the Municipality Bratislav Vuckovic and the Head of the Municipal Administration Marija Brajdic.

The battles for the liberation of Nis in the First World War began on October 9, 1918, with the entry of a unit of the First Serbian Army into the regions of Nis Zaplanje and Gornje Dobrica, under the command of the celebrated Serbian military leader and Petar Bojovic. In parallel with the Serbian army, the French cavalry brigade as part of the cavalry division, which was already in the valley of the Kutina river, 30 kilometers from the city, also took part. In these, the last battles for Nis, in addition to soldiers, citizens also participated. They disarmed German units and handed over prisoners of war and spoils of war to the arriving Serbian and French units.
