    TRIBUTE TO TEACHER TEACHER

    At the old cemetery “Gorica”, 123 years ago (February 13, 1894 in the Kingdom of Serbia), Atanasije Tasa Petrovic – teacher Tasa, one of the most famous educational workers in Nis in the 19th century, was buried.
    He was born on January 10, 1824 in Nis, in the Ottoman Empire, and devoted his entire life to education. The Nis education was started at the school “Teacher Tasa”, above all by the character and work of Atanasije Tasa Petrović, the first Serbian teacher.

    The first school in Niš has grown in the area of today’s school and school yard and with the success of almost two centuries it fosters its school tradition.
    By the decision of the Municipal Assembly of Nis in 1983, as authentic testimonies of personalities and events in Nis, eight graves in the “old cemetery”, among which the grave of Atanasije Petrović – Teacher Tasa, were placed under the protection of the Law.
