    MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR THE VICTIMS OF APRIL BOMBING

    ПОМЕН ЖРТВАМА АПРИЛСКОГ БОМБАРДОВАЊА

    On the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of the Citizens of Nis killed on April 8, 1941, in the Nazi bombing, at the Old Nis Cemetery “Gorica”, Bishop of Niš, Mr. Arsenije served a Memorial service to the victims of the first attack on Nis in the Second World War.

    The wreaths on the monument to the victims were laid by the Mayor of Nis Darko Bulatovic with his associates, the delegation of the Municipality of Palilula – Milos Stojiljkovic, a member of the Municipal Council, Dusan Pujovic and Nemanja Milosevic from the Youth Office of the Municipality of Palilula, a delegation from the Nisava Administrative District, delegations and representatives of tradition, liberation and societies for cherishing tradition, including the representatives of the Serbian-Russian Humanitarian Center.

    In the crusade of fascist Germany to Serbia in World War II, only in April, in the bombing of the civilian population of Nis were killed about 400 citizens, and more than 500 were more easily or severely injured. The bombs destroyed many facilities in a short time, citizens were killed in houses, on the street, in the hospital. They were all buried in Old Cemetery in one common grave.
