Within the framework of the ROMACTED program, the Council of Europe and the European Union (DG NEAR – General Directorate for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations), which “Promotes Good Governance and Empowerment of Roma at the Local Level”, after signing the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Council of Europe, the Ministry of Construction, and infrastructure, the City of Nis and the Municipality of Palilula, a call for participation has been announced for granting grants to support organizations. Thanks to this program, in “Djuka Dinić” settlement, Palilula Municipality, where the Roma population is predominantly living, in the area next to the playground, a children’s new playground was installed. According to the president of the Municipality of Palilula, Aleksandar Ždrale, this is a project supported by the German development agency “Giz”, and the value of building this playground with the necessary mobilization is 10 thousand euros.
Public Enterprise Mediana also made a significant contribution to the cleaning and landscaping of the park. Tijana Djordjevic Ilic, the Town Hall of Nis Councillor, also attended the event, which pointed out that “The City of Niš is undertaking a series of actions in order to improve the position of the Roma that make up a significant part of the population.” In addition to the programs that are being implemented, there are also projects that are in the process of preparation, and on which the specially formed local team works. In order to re-establish the Romacted program, the City of Niš has also set up a mobile team with Jelena Petrić program coordinator, who will work in the field. In the realization of the programs for improving the social status of Roma, all institutions that have the authority take care of the protection and promotion of the status of national minorities community.
