On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Mayor of Nis, Darko Bulatović, and his associates hosted representatives of associations and organizations in the City Hall. The ceremony was supported by the idea of the need to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, equality of human rights and equal participation in all segments of public life.
The Delegation of Palilula Municipality attended the ceremony. “We support the activities of people with disabilities in the realization of the rights in the field of social and health care, legal safety at work, employment, media promotion,” said Vladan Barac, who is in charge of solidarity for persons with disabilities in Palilula Municipality and cooperation with disabled organizations . Mayor of Nis, Darko Bulatovic, noted that the City allocates almost 100 percent of the amount of funds this year compared to the previous practice.
“This is a modest contribution – says the mayor – but also an honest indicator of how much we think about you or, what is perhaps the most important, how much we will think of you in the future, because you are an important part of society and because we are all the same.” Integration of persons disability in the areas of public, political, economic and cultural life of the City, removal of physical and social barriers, respect for dignity, as well as the realization of social, economic, educational and health rights, represents an important legal and ethical obligation of the City of Niš, deputy head Bulatović. An active employment policy for disabled people has been recognized as one of the primary goals of local self-government. At the republic level, Nis is the city that invested most funds for employment of people with disabilities.
On this occasion, Bulatovic said: “I want you to feel the City of Nis support, to feel as one significant and useful part of our society, to feel in this house as if were your own.”
A member of the City Council for Social Affairs, Tijana Djordjevic Ilic, emphasized that equal inclusion on the labor market, social and economic security, the realization of the rights of persons with disabilities, but also all persons with disabilities, as well as respect for personal and human dignity, is the most important issues of the social policy of the City of Nis. The Deputy Protector of Citizens for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Vladana Jović, noted that the City of Niš represents an example of good practice for the implementation of persons with disabilities. Vladana Jović reminded that the City of Nis in the calendar year 2016 was on the list of cities awarded to contribute to the development of all forms of accessibility for persons with disabilities on its territory.
