ALEKSANDAR ZDRALE CONGRATULATIONS ON SERBIA STATEHOOD DAY

ЧЕСТИТКА АЛЕКСАНДРА ЖДРАЛЕТА ПОВОДОМ ДАНА ДРЖАВНОСТИ СРБИЈЕ

I congratulate all citizens of the Municipality of Palilula in Nis, the Statehood Day. Sretenje is a day that reminds us that the Serbs fought heroically for both freedom and democracy. The struggle for national liberation from the Turks, which began with Karadjordje in 1804, by national unity and great battles, continued with the passing of the Sretenje Constitution in1835 by our wise Prince Miloš. The Sretenje constitution of Serbia was made according to the Belgian and French constitutional laws and chapters of that time and was very liberal and contemporary. It hinted the beginning of one modern European democracy. Courage and state wisdom, patriotism and democracy, our nationality and the further development of Serbia are in line.

    Aleksandar Zdrale,
President of the City Municipality of Palilula Nis

The National Day -Statehood Day, which was established as the national holiday of the Republic of Serbia in 2001, is celebrated on February 15 in the memory of two great events for the Serbian people – the beginning of the First Serbian Uprising in 1804 under the leadership of Karadjordje and the adoption of the first Constitution of 1835, known as the Sretenje Constitution during the reign of Miloš Obrenović. . “Sretenje thus connects one combat and one political emancipatory tradition. This is a good match, since two beginnings have coincided – the war fights for the freedom of the Serbs from the Turks and the beginning of modern European democracy. ” The Sretenje Constitution of Serbia is one of the most democratic constitutions of its time. It was built on the reputation of the Belgian and French constitutional laws and chapters of that time. It was very liberal and modern and introduced Serbia into the ranks of states that have their constitution. The constitution came into force after it was proclaimed by the National Assembly, also on Sretenje, on February 15, 1835, in the capital of those days – Kragujevac, but was in function for only a few weeks, after which, under the pressure of great powers, Prince Miloš suspended it, pleading that this act is too liberal and does not correspond to his vision of rule.
